Barolo is often called the "King of Wines," but Albe is a Barolo that feels more like poetry—an ode to the land, the passage of time, and the artistry of winemaking. This cuvée takes its name from the three distinct sunrises (Albe) that grace the high-altitude vineyards of G.D. Vajra each morning. A blend of sites with diverse exposures, this wine embodies the elegance and complexity of traditional Barolo, guided by the family's deep respect for their land and their organic farming philosophy.

Sensory Description

From the very first sip, Albe captivates with its ethereal perfume—fresh cherries, crushed roses, and hints of orange zest rise from the glass, woven with layers of spice and crushed stone minerality. The palate is bright and energetic, with youthful yet refined tannins, balanced by a core of juicy red fruit and a long, textural finish. It’s a wine that speaks of both tradition and vibrancy, offering a glimpse into the timeless beauty of Barolo.

Winemaker’s Background

The Vajra family is deeply rooted in Barolo, with vineyards first planted in 1947 and a winery established in 1972. Aldo and Milena Vajra were among the earliest adopters of organic farming in Piemonte, a commitment that has defined their approach for over five decades. Today, their children—Giuseppe, Francesca, and Isidoro—are carrying the family's legacy forward, blending tradition with innovation. Their wines, like Albe, honor the past while embracing the future, capturing the soul of Barolo with every vintage.

Serving Suggestions

Nebbiolo's delicate yet structured nature makes Albe an incredibly versatile food wine. Serve at 60–65°F (16–18°C) and pair with dishes that highlight its elegance: truffle-infused pasta, braised short ribs, or classic tajarin with butter and sage. The wine’s bright acidity and fine tannins also make it a natural partner for aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino. While delicious now, it will continue to develop beautifully over the next decade—patience will be rewarded.
