Champagne Grand Cru

In Champagne, Grand Cru refers to a special classification given to the highest-rated vineyard areas based on the Échelle des Crus, a village-based ranking system originally introduced in the early 20th century. Unlike Burgundy, where individual vineyard parcels are ranked, Champagne’s Grand Cru status applies to entire villages (called crus), and only 17 villages have earned this elite designation.
