From the gravel-rich soils of Bordeaux’s Haut-Médoc, the 1985 Château Lachesnaye Cru Bourgeois reflects both heritage and elegance. This classic Left Bank blend combines Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to create a supple and balanced wine that has matured gracefully since its release.

Product Details:

  • Varietal Composition: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Alcohol: 13%
  • Soil: Garonne gravel
  • Viticulture: Conventional

Sensory Description:

Deep ruby in color, the wine reveals aromas of ripe black fruit layered with subtle notes of earth and spice. On the palate, it offers a rounded, supple texture with elegant tannins and classic Médoc structure. The 1995 vintage lends maturity and depth, where flavors of blackberry, cassis, and tobacco integrate with hints of leather and forest floor, finishing with poise and balance.

Winemaker's Background:

Château Lachesnaye traces its roots back to the 17th century, when its vineyards were first established on gravelly soils deposited by the Garonne River. This terroir, combined with the estate’s dedication to traditional Bordeaux viticulture, produces wines that reflect both structure and refinement. Now under the ownership of GFA du Domaine Bouteiller, the château continues to honor its heritage while maintaining its Cru Bourgeois standing.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 16 °C in a Bordeaux glass. This wine pairs beautifully with game and roasted meats, particularly faisan forestière (pheasant with mushrooms), carré d’agneau rôti à la graine de moutarde (mustard-crusted rack of lamb), or civet de lièvre (hare stew). Its elegance also allows it to complement a wide range of classic French cuisine, making it a versatile and food-friendly choice.

The 1985 Château Lachesnaye showcases the enduring character of a well-made Cru Bourgeois, a mature Bordeaux that balances supple fruit, refined structure, and the unique expression of the Haut-Médoc terroir.
