Sensory Description:

Brilliant orange in the glass, this wine bursts with aromas of peach, orange blossom, thyme, and hints of burnt orange peel. The palate is light yet structured, with subtle tannic texture balanced by zesty acidity. Notes of dried apricot, chamomile, and sweet spice carry through to a clean, tangy finish. Its finesse belies its long maceration, resulting in an elegant and approachable orange wine that remains true to its rustic roots.

Awards & Accolades:

  • 93 Points – Decanter Magazine (Natalie Earl): “With a bright orange colour comes intense aromatics, both spicy and savoury with a twist of floral sweetness. Burnt orange peel, thyme, and orange blossom characters emerge, and the palate is tangy and delicious. Astonishingly, the vines are 200 years old.”

Winemaker's Background:

Viña González Bastías is a small, family-run estate led by fifth-generation grower José Luis González Bastías and his partner, agronomist and viticulturist Daniela Lorenzo. Together, they preserve 200-year-old País bush vines and native plantings on the south bank of the Maule River. Their holistic approach to viticulture integrates organic farming, biodiversity, and respect for local traditions. Sheep graze between vines, fruit trees shade the vineyard, and every aspect of production reflects a deep connection to the land. Their wines, made with native yeasts and minimal intervention, are a pure reflection of the Maule Valley’s living history.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve lightly chilled, around 12°C, to highlight its aromatic brightness and gentle texture. Pairs beautifully with spicy cuisine, sweet-and-sour dishes, or adventurous desserts featuring fruit and herbs.

The 2022 Viña González Bastías ‘Naranjo’ is a soulful meeting of nature, culture, and craftsmanship, a wine that captures the beauty of old vines and the vision of a new generation of Chilean winemakers.
