Sensory Description:
Brilliant garnet in color, the 2019 Castelletto opens with an elegant bouquet of rose petals, balsamic herbs, cinnamon, cedar, and sweet pipe tobacco. Subtle spice and earthy undertones give way to lifted floral notes and bright red cherry. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with silky yet persistent tannins, brisk acidity, and flavors of mint, white pepper, and dried red fruits. The finish is long and poised, offering a harmonious interplay of fruit, minerality, and savory grip that lingers with finesse.
Winemaker's Background:
Founded in 1988, Fratelli Seghesio is a family-run estate in the heart of Monforte d’Alba. The winery is now helmed by the next generation—Michela, Sandro, and Marco—who carry forward the vision of their grandfather Riccardo with passion and precision. The estate comprises 10 hectares of vineyards, all farmed sustainably under the National Quality System for Integrated Production (SQNPI). Their vineyards, rich in galestro, arenaria, and alberese soils, are nestled at 350 meters above sea level and surrounded by natural forest, offering optimal conditions for Nebbiolo. Seghesio's commitment to tradition, innovation, and environmental stewardship yields wines that embody both elegance and identity.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve at 18°C in large Burgundy or Nebbiolo-specific glassware to allow full aromatic expression. This Barolo pairs beautifully with braised meats, truffle risotto, aged cheeses, or traditional Piemontese dishes like brasato al Barolo or tajarin with porcini. Ideal for cellaring or decanting now to reveal its layered complexity.
The 2019 Seghesio Castelletto Barolo is a wine of refined power and undeniable grace—a tribute to the heritage of Barolo and the dedication of the Seghesio family.
