Sensory Description:

The wine opens with aromas of dark cherry, crushed plum, dried flowers, and fresh rosemary, layered over notes of tobacco, forest floor, and spice. On the palate, it’s elegant yet firm, delivering black cherry, wild berries, orange rind, licorice, and crushed stone. Tightly woven tannins and bright acidity frame the fruit, finishing with balsamic spice and a long, mineral-tinged persistence. This vintage represents a fresher, more lifted interpretation of Mocali’s traditionally rich Brunello style.

Winemaker's Background:

Mocali is among the founding estates of the Brunello di Montalcino Consorzio, established in 1967 by 25 visionary vignerons, one of whom was Dino Ciacci, founder of Mocali. The estate began as a traditional farm cultivating grapes, grains, olives, and sheep for cheese production. In the aftermath of a devastating frost in 1985, Dino’s grandson, Tiziano Ciacci, and his wife Alessandra transformed the farm into a dedicated wine estate, releasing their first Brunello in 1990. Today, Mocali farms 20 hectares in Montalcino and produces approximately 5,000 cases of Brunello annually. The estate’s wines are vinified traditionally, aged exclusively in large Slavonian and French oak casks. The family also runs Poggio Nardone, a neighboring estate offering a more modern Brunello expression. With daughter Pamela now involved, Mocali remains a proudly family-run operation.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve the 2019 Mocali Brunello di Montalcino at 60–65°F after decanting for at least one hour. Its structure and complexity pair beautifully with braised lamb, bistecca alla fiorentina, wild mushroom risotto, or aged pecorino. Built for aging, this wine will continue to evolve gracefully through 2042 and beyond, making it a perfect addition to any serious cellar or celebratory table.

The 2019 Mocali Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Tuscany, Italy is a wine of integrity and heritage, powerful yet polished, expressive yet age-worthy. It honors the land and legacy of Montalcino while offering modern drinkers a beautifully crafted expression of Italy’s most noble red.
