Barolo has a way of making time stand still, and the Damilano Liste is no exception. This single-vineyard expression from one of Barolo’s most historic producers is a lesson in patience and reward. A wine that demands attention and a few hours to fully unveil its complexity, Liste showcases the signature elegance of Nebbiolo with a structure that commands cellaring. Upon opening, it may feel restrained, but with time, it transforms into something truly remarkable, silky red fruit, deep spice, and an underlying minerality that lingers long after the final sip. This is a Barolo that overdelivers, proving that some things are simply worth waiting for.

Sensory Description:
At first glance, Liste presents itself in a deep ruby red, hinting at the layers of complexity beneath its surface. The nose is evocative of wild violets and dried roses, underscored by the earthiness of truffle, tobacco, and dark cocoa. Bright red cherry emerges first on the palate, evolving into a deeper, darker fruit character with hints of ripe strawberry and tart cherry. There’s an interplay of fine-grained tannins and a firm, mineral-driven backbone that builds toward a finish of spice, cedar, and savory earth tones. With time, the wine softens into an elegant, velvety texture, with the tannins seamlessly woven into the fruit, revealing a depth that only Barolo can achieve.
Winemaker’s Background:
Damilano is one of Barolo’s great heritage estates, with a family lineage in winemaking dating back to 1890. Now in the hands of the fourth generation, the estate has become synonymous with meticulous vineyard management and a dedication to showcasing Barolo’s historic crus. Liste is one of four single-vineyard Barolos produced by Damilano, along with Cannubi, Brunate, and Cerequio, each offering a unique expression of the region’s diverse terroir. The estate spans 53 hectares, with a focus on crafting wines that balance power and finesse. Their flagship, the Cannubi 1752 Riserva, is one of the most sought-after Barolos, reflecting their commitment to tradition and excellence.
Serving Suggestions:
This is a wine that benefits immensely from patience. Decant for at least four hours before serving to allow its full complexity to unfold. Ideal serving temperature is around 60–65°F to highlight its aromatic depth and refined structure. When it comes to food pairings, the classic flavors of Piedmont shine, truffle-accented risotto, slow-braised beef dishes, or a rich mushroom and herb pasta. The wine’s firm tannins also make it a perfect match for roasted meats, game, or aged cheeses. For those willing to cellar, this Barolo has the potential to evolve beautifully over the next decade or more.
