Don Rubén Peña Fuentes is a veteran maestro tabernero from Mascota, Jalisco, with decades of hands-on experience and deep-rooted knowledge of wild agave cultivation and natural fermentation. Known for cultivating Maximiliana agave from seed and adhering strictly to artisan methods, Don Rubén brings unmatched dedication and personal legend to his spirits. He is even rumored to attribute the vitality of his 17 daughters to the life force of his raicilla. La Venenosa, the brand through which this spirit reaches the world, was founded by Chef Esteban Morales, who traversed the mountains and coastlines of Jalisco to identify the state’s best small-batch tabernas. Each La Venenosa release is a one-of-a-kind reflection of the land, the agave, and the hands that made it.
