Sensory Description: A wine of considerable depth and body, the 2018 Mother Tongue Shiraz presents an energetic transparency of fruit. The nose is rich with liquored and dried fruits such as raspberry, boysenberry, quandong, and black currant, underpinned by an herbal mix of eucalyptus, cinnamon myrtle, and river mint. The palate is weighty yet balanced with a refreshing acidity and a hint of bitterness. Elegant oak notes of spice and cedar enhance the complexity, creating a structured and sophisticated finish.

Winemaker's Background: Mother Tongue is the brainchild of Dennis and Debra Scholl, who bring a wealth of experience from various fields including wine, arts, and philanthropy. Their journey in winemaking began with the acclaimed Betts & Scholl label, which they sold in 2009. Returning to their vinous passion in 2014, they leased the historic Kraft vineyard, aiming to create wines that are both classic and contemporary. Their collaboration with Christian Canute, known for his expertise with Barossa's terroir, ensures that each bottle of Mother Tongue Shiraz is a true expression of its origins.

Serving Suggestions: The 2018 Mother Tongue Shiraz is best enjoyed slightly cooler than room temperature, around 60-65°F. This wine pairs excellently with hearty dishes such as grilled lamb, aged cheddar, or rich stews. For a delightful experience, decant the wine for about an hour before serving to allow its complex flavors to fully unfold.
