The 2022 Weingut Ziereisen Talrain Spätburgunder from Baden, Germany is a stunningly pure expression of Pinot Noir, shaped by high-altitude vineyards and meticulous hands-on winemaking. Sourced from the limestone-rich, iron-laced soils of the Talrain vineyard—perched nearly 2,000 feet above sea level on the edge of the Black Forest—this wine blends mineral-driven precision with Burgundian finesse. With its classic cherry perfume and elegant structure, Talrain is a Pinot Noir that reflects both place and passion.

Sensory Description:

The wine opens with a classic, seductive cherry fragrance underscored by subtle spice and forest floor. On the palate, it is fresh and precise, with ripe, silken tannins and a fine, focused acidity that gives the wine both lift and longevity. Earthy depth meets red fruit clarity in a texture that is at once polished and expressive. The finish is long, quietly powerful, and reverberating with elegance, promising further development with time in bottle.

Winemaker's  Background:

Nestled in Efringen-Kirchen at the crossroads of Germany, Switzerland, and Alsace, Weingut Ziereisen is a family-run estate guided by the vision of Hanspeter and Edel Ziereisen. Inspired by French philosophies of terroir and restraint, the winery is renowned for its handcrafted Pinot Noir and Gutedel (Chasselas), as well as other cool-climate varieties. Hanspeter embraces a philosophy of “controlled idleness,” allowing wines to evolve naturally with minimal intervention. Sustainable farming, native yeast fermentations, and extended aging in neutral wood are central to the Ziereisen approach. The Talrain vineyard is their only non-local site, and Hanspeter considers it a gem—producing Spätburgunder of exceptional altitude, soil expression, and balance.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy glass after 30–60 minutes of decanting to reveal its fine aromatics and supple structure. Ideal pairings include roasted duck, mushroom risotto, pork tenderloin, or aged Alpine cheeses. This wine has excellent aging potential—enjoy now or cellar confidently for up to a decade or more.

The 2022 Weingut Ziereisen Talrain Spätburgunder is a benchmark Pinot Noir that brings together site, soul, and skill—an elegant, layered red that speaks fluently of its Black Forest heights and limestone depths.
