Sensory Description:
Delicate yet complex, the wine opens with a pale ruby hue that hints at its graceful style. On the nose, classic aromas of dried red berries and crushed rose petals dominate, joined by subtle earthy undertones. The palate is refined and elegantly structured, showcasing silky tannins, firm acidity, and a tangy core of cranberry, cherry skin, and spice. There’s a mineral backbone and tension that speak to the steep, clay-rich slopes from which the fruit is sourced. The finish is crisp, long, and full of finesse.
Winemaker's Background:
Daniele Conterno represents the fourth generation of winemakers in his family’s long-standing legacy. With roots tracing back to his great-grandfather Pietro, the estate has evolved under the stewardship of Daniele and his father Franco, who transitioned the vineyards to certified organic farming in 2005. Based in the heart of the Langhe, Daniele blends tradition with innovation, respecting his family's methods while remaining open to experimentation. Today, he carries forward their legacy with passion and humility, creating expressive wines that reflect the land and history that shaped them.
Serving Suggestions:
This Barolo is ideally paired with richly flavored dishes such as braised beef shank, roasted duck, or aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano. Its vibrant acidity and firm structure make it particularly well-suited for meals with depth and complexity. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving to allow the wine’s elegance and aromatic detail to unfold.
Crafted with reverence for tradition and a fresh outlook, the 2020 Daniele Conterno Barolo DOCG, Piedmont, Italy is a beautifully balanced expression of Nebbiolo that captures the essence of its famed terroir and the legacy of one of Barolo’s deeply rooted families.
