Sensory Description:

This wine opens with dazzling aromas of ripe white peach, crushed stone, and delicate white flowers. On the palate, it is focused and linear, offering mouthwatering acidity, vibrant citrus, and cool mineral tones that unfold with every sip. Its barely medium body and precise structure are lifted by a refreshing northern clarity, making for a compelling harmony of fruit, florals, and stony elegance. The finish is long, clean, and etched with the signature saline minerality of Hermannshöhle.

Awards & Accolades:

  • James Suckling (2024): 95 Points – “Super-elegant and super-precise… very pure and straight with compelling harmony.”

Winemaker's Background:

Weingut Dönnhoff, located in Oberhausen along the Nahe River, is one of Germany’s most acclaimed estates, renowned for producing wines of extraordinary purity and depth. With a family history in the region dating back to the 1750s, the modern reputation of the estate was forged by Helmut Dönnhoff, who began his winemaking journey in 1971. Under his leadership, the estate has expanded to over 25 hectares, with a focus on Riesling cultivated across Erste and Grosse Lage sites. Dönnhoff’s winemaking is minimal and precise, using whole-bunch pressing, spontaneous fermentations, and aging in both stainless steel and large oak to preserve the unique character of each vineyard. Now joined by his son Cornelius, the legacy of excellence continues across every vintage.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve chilled at 8–10°C in a white wine glass to highlight its refined aromatics and razor-sharp structure. This Riesling pairs beautifully with dishes such as sashimi, ceviche, grilled white fish, herbed poultry, or lightly spiced Asian cuisine. It also makes an exceptional companion to goat cheese and vegetable-forward fare. Drink now or cellar through 2035 for additional complexity.

The 2023 Weingut Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Riesling Trocken is a brilliant expression of Nahe terroir—elegant, crystalline, and profoundly mineral. A benchmark dry Riesling that defines the balance between precision and beauty.
