Sensory Description:
Pouring a vibrant ruby hue, the 2024 Scar of the Sea Pinot Noir opens with a lifted nose of wild red berries, ripe cherry, and subtle earthy undertones. On the palate, its medium body and silky tannins wrap around flavors of cranberry, red currant, and a whisper of savory spice. Bright acidity lends freshness and energy, while a touch of coastal salinity adds depth and a uniquely SLO Coast signature. The finish is long, graceful, and laced with minerality and finesse.
Winemaker's Background:
Founded by Mikey Giugni, Scar of the Sea is a passion project rooted in the intersection of coastal farming and minimal-intervention winemaking. Dedicated to showcasing the vineyards of California’s Central Coast with humility and care, the winery works closely with organic and biodynamic growers and adheres to low-intervention techniques, including native yeast fermentations, neutral oak aging, and no fining or filtration. Scar of the Sea wines are soulful, energetic, and expressive of place—crafted with reverence for land and sea alike.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve slightly chilled (55–60°F) in a Burgundy glass to accentuate its delicate aromatics and elegant texture. Perfect alongside herb-roasted chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, or a simple cheese and charcuterie board. A versatile wine ideal for picnics by the coast or cozy dinners at home.
Vivid, pure, and coastal to its core, the 2024 Scar of the Sea SLO Coast Pinot Noir delivers a beautifully balanced expression of one of California’s most exciting emerging AVAs.
