The 2022 Mayacamas Vineyards Chardonnay from Mount Veeder captures the purity, focus, and timeless elegance that have defined this historic Napa Valley estate for over a century. Grown on steep mountain slopes at elevations ranging from 1,800 to 2,100 feet, this Chardonnay reflects the rugged terroir of volcanic soils, cool maritime breezes, and a winemaking philosophy rooted in classical traditions. The result is a wine of striking energy, layered complexity, and exceptional age-worthiness.

Sensory Description:

The wine opens with lifted aromatics of chamomile, yuzu, and marzipan. On the palate, it is compact and layered, presenting bright flavors of tangerine, white peach, and Bartlett pear supported by vibrant lemongrass. Secondary notes of bergamot and green cardamom add dimension, while a saline mineral edge underscores its mountain character. The finish is long, clean, and energetic, carried by orchard fruit, flint rock, and lingering freshness.

Winemaker's Background:

Founded in 1889 by John Henry Fisher, Mayacamas Vineyards is one of Napa Valley’s most historic estates. The property has passed through visionary hands, from Jack and Mary Taylor in the mid-20th century, who planted the estate’s first Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon vines, to Bob Travers, whose wines earned global acclaim, including selection in the 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting. Today, Mayacamas continues its legacy of traditional winemaking, producing wines renowned for their purity, freshness, and remarkable ageability. Farming is organic, vineyard blocks are planted to match the unique volcanic soils and topography, and classical techniques remain central to the estate’s philosophy.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve chilled at 50–54 °F. This Chardonnay is a natural pairing for seared scallops, roasted chicken with herbs, lobster risotto, or creamy vegetarian dishes like mushroom ragout. Its brightness also complements fresh goat cheese, citrus-driven salads, and delicate seafood preparations.

The 2022 Mayacamas Vineyards Chardonnay is a benchmark example of mountain-grown Napa Chardonnay, precise, layered, and timeless, honoring tradition while expressing the unique terroir of Mount Veeder.
