The Fragospito Winery Kotsifali captures the authentic spirit of Crete, made from 100% Kotsifali grapes grown in the winery’s organically cultivated single vineyard. Located in the Vorias area of Monofatsi, Heraklio, this vineyard sits at 400 meters altitude, where cooling north winds and clay-loamy soils create ideal conditions for this indigenous variety. This wine’s lively acidity and delicate tannins highlight the freshness and vibrancy of the island’s unique terroir.

Sensory Description: Brilliantly red in color, this Kotsifali offers a fragrant bouquet of blackcurrant, sour cherry, and violet, imparting a fresh, airy character. On the palate, high acidity and gentle tannins create a balanced structure, supporting the fruit-forward profile and enhancing the wine’s smooth, lively finish.

Winery’s Background: Founded on a family tradition that began in 1906, Fragospito Winery reflects over a century of winemaking heritage passed down through the Gavalas family. In 2001, the vineyard adopted organic cultivation to safeguard both the environment and the well-being of future generations. By 2004, a state-of-the-art winery was established, allowing the Gavalas family to oversee each step of the winemaking process, from vine to bottle, preserving the legacy and passion inherited from their ancestors.

Serving Suggestions: Serve this Kotsifali at 60-64°F (16-18°C) to appreciate its aromatic and textural complexity. It pairs beautifully with traditional Greek dishes such as moussaka, or vegetable stews cooked with olive oil and red sauce. This versatile wine complements Mediterranean cuisine, enhancing its fresh, vibrant flavors.
