A profound reflection of Jura’s ancient terroir, the 2016 Bénédicte & Stéphane Tissot Arbois 'La Vasée' Vin Jaune is a compelling example of this storied regional style. Made entirely from Savagnin grapes grown in the single-vineyard plot "La Vasée," this wine embodies the unique character of Jura’s Lias and Trias soils. Crafted under flor and aged for over six years without topping up, this Vin Jaune reveals extraordinary oxidative complexity and commanding precision. Its bold, smoky aromatics and zesty structure make it an ideal candidate for long-term cellaring and unforgettable gastronomic pairings.

Sensory Description:

On the nose, this wine delivers intensely evocative aromas of peat smoke, iodine, flor yeast, and dried nuts, reminiscent of Islay whisky yet entirely vinous. The palate is electric, dry, powerful, and saline, with a razor-sharp line of acidity and an earthy complexity that lingers through a thrilling finish. Layers of walnut, preserved lemon, and mushroom evolve with air, showcasing immense aging potential and purity of place.

Awards & Accolades:

  • 97 Points – Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker Wine Advocate (July 2023)
“Peat and flor yeasts on the nose with a sharper, precise palate… usually my favorite Vin Jaune from Arbois.”

Winemaker's Background:

Since converting to organics in 1999 and biodynamics shortly after, Bénédicte & Stéphane Tissot have redefined excellence in Jura winemaking. From their base in Arbois, they’ve championed site-specific bottlings and natural methods that emphasize terroir transparency. Their whites are celebrated for their smoky reductive edge and structured power, and 'La Vasée' stands as one of their crown jewels, a benchmark Vin Jaune that speaks to both place and passion.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve just below room temperature, ideally around 14–16°C, in a white wine glass or small tulip. Decanting is recommended to release its layered aromatics. This wine is an exquisite match for aged Comté cheese, roasted poultry with morels, foie gras, or even dishes with saffron or curry. Its bold, umami-rich profile also allows it to hold its own against exotic pairings like sushi or miso-based cuisine.

This vintage of 'La Vasée' Vin Jaune captures the essence of Jura in one of its most age-worthy, complex, and thought-provoking forms. Whether savored now or cellared for decades, it promises an unforgettable journey into one of France’s most distinctive wine styles.
