Bright red cherry and crushed violet rise from the glass, framed by subtle earth and fresh herbs. 2023 Mocali Fosseti Rosso Toscana IGT is a focused blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Canaiolo, grown in marly limestone soils and sourced from vineyards within Montalcino that lie just beyond the designated Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino sites. Crafted with precision and aged primarily in steel to preserve purity, it reflects the Mocali family’s commitment to transparency of fruit and terroir expression.

Sensory Description:

2023 Mocali Fosseti Rosso Toscana IGT delivers a vibrant and authentic expression of Tuscan red fruit. Aromas of sour cherry, red plum, and dried rose petals unfold alongside hints of wild thyme and subtle mineral tones. The palate is lively and structured, with Sangiovese’s natural acidity driving freshness while Canaiolo contributes softness and aromatic lift. Fine tannins provide a gentle grip without heaviness, and the predominantly steel aging preserves clarity and brightness. The finish is clean, savory, and persistent, highlighting the limestone-derived tension and the classic balance that defines traditional Tuscan blends.

Winemaker’s Background:

The Azienda Agricola Mocali di Ciacci Tiziano estate is situated southwest of Montalcino, surrounded by Mediterranean forest and mineral-rich soils alternating with limestone. The family manages the full production cycle, combining traditional methods with modern precision in their technologically advanced cellar. With vineyards carefully tended under practicing organic principles, Mocali emphasizes balance, authenticity, and site expression. Their wines are exported globally and recognized for their integrity and dedication to Tuscan heritage.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve at 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit in a medium-sized red wine glass to accentuate aromatics and structure. Pair with tomato-based pasta dishes, grilled sausages, roasted poultry, aged pecorino, or herb-roasted vegetables. Its vibrant acidity and moderate structure make it especially versatile at the table.
