Xanadu Wines
Xanadu, located in the heart of the Margaret River wine region, epitomizes a harmonious blend of innovative winemaking and a steadfast commitment to sustainability. Established in 1977, the winery embraces a philosophy centered on producing wines of uncompromising quality while deeply respecting the environment and the community.
Sustainability lies at the core of Xanadu’s operations. As a certified member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia since 2011, Xanadu continuously pioneers initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, community engagement, and economic resilience. The winery enhances soil health and biodiversity by utilizing cover crops, natural compost, and reducing synthetic fertilizers. Sheep grazing helps control weeds while minimizing chemical herbicide use, and extended flowering seasons encourage natural insect populations to support vineyard ecosystems. Water management practices include the collection of 3 million liters of rainwater annually and the use of on-site dams, while energy needs are met in part by a 100 kW solar system that reduces energy consumption by 25%. Xanadu also employs innovative waste management practices, treating wastewater for reuse in native vegetation irrigation and utilizing environmentally friendly, recyclable packaging to minimize its carbon footprint. In the broader community, Xanadu contributes to local conservation by rehabilitating degraded areas, maintaining the Boodjidup Brook Water Catchment, and caring for sections of walking trails, enhancing both the environment and local biodiversity.
Under the stewardship of Senior Winemaker Glenn Goodall, Xanadu employs a winemaking philosophy focused on allowing the vineyard’s unique voice to shine through in every bottle. Specializing in Margaret River’s iconic varietals, including Gingin clone Chardonnay and Houghton clone Cabernet Sauvignon, Xanadu produces wines of intense concentration, balance, and structure. The winemaking team emphasizes minimal intervention, employing techniques such as whole-bunch pressing, wild fermentation, and French oak aging. Each vineyard block is vinified separately to preserve its distinctive characteristics, ensuring that the final wines reflect the true essence of the terroir. This meticulous process has earned Xanadu numerous accolades, including multiple trophies for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Reserve Chardonnay, cementing its reputation as a leader in Australian winemaking.
Xanadu’s seamless integration of sustainability and technical expertise reflects its deep commitment to the Margaret River region’s pristine environment and winemaking heritage. The result is a portfolio of wines that resonate with both the land and the palate, embodying the best of this celebrated region.
