Talnua Distillery's story begins not in Denver but in a cozy Galway pub during a serendipitous moment that would forever change the lives of founders Patrick and Meagan Miller. On their honeymoon in 2011, the couple found themselves watching the Ireland vs. USA Rugby World Cup Match. As the game unfolded, an enthusiastic bartender introduced them to a Single Pot Still Whiskey—a style nearly lost to history. With passion, he recounted its storied past and the hope that this distinctive whiskey would one day regain its prominence on the global stage.

From that moment, Patrick and Meagan’s love affair with Single Pot Still Whiskey was born. Their Irish ancestry and annual pilgrimages to Ireland deepened their connection to the craft. They became determined to bring this extraordinary style to the United States, fusing Ireland’s Gaelic distilling traditions with the pioneering spirit of the American West. In the process, Talnua Distillery became the first outside Ireland to specialize exclusively in Single Pot Still Whiskey. Located in Denver, Colorado, Talnua honors both the old world and the new, blending time-honored methods with the terroir of the Rocky Mountain region to create whiskeys of unparalleled character.

Our 2024 Partnership with Root Shoot Malting and Olander Farms

In 2024, Talnua deepens its commitment to sustainability and community through its partnership with Root Shoot Malting and Olander Farms. This collaboration underscores Talnua’s dedication to a local and regenerative supply chain, supporting family farms and conserving farmland for future generations. However, 2024 also brought challenges, including a devastating hailstorm that destroyed over 512 acres of Olander Farms' crops, including distillers’ corn, blue corn, alfalfa, and barley.

In response, Talnua launched a philanthropic effort through its Acorn Project. With a single barrel release and proceeds from cocktails and pours, the distillery pledged $5,000 to aid Olander Farms in recovering losses and advancing regenerative farming practices. The event, held on October 5, 2024, exemplifies Talnua’s unwavering dedication to its partners and its community, blending craft innovation with meaningful impact.
