Ratio Beerworks
Ratio Beerworks is where Denver’s punk-rock ethos meets meticulous craft brewing, founded by a trio whose roots run deep in the music scene. In the late ’90s, the future co-founders were touring, producing zines, and managing labels. That DIY passion, combined with training in German breweries and experience across respected Colorado brewhouses, paved the path for Ratio’s founding in Denver’s artistic RiNo district in 2015.
Their name isn’t just clever, it reflects a belief in balance: the “golden ratio” of flavor, technique, and culture. The result is a taproom experience built not just for beer but for community. Their eclectic space, including an industrial-chic interior, dog-friendly patio, vibrant mural art, and a legendary fence depicting soundwaves from songs behind their brews, makes it a go-to on Larimer Street.
Ratio’s beer lineup is a nod to music as much as to style. From the easy-drinking Domestica American Golden Ale to Hold Steady (a rich Dark Scotch Ale), the quirky French Dear You Saison, the carrot-and-elderflower King of Carrot Flowers, and the bold Genius Wizard Russian Imperial Stout, each brew comes with attitude and intention. Staple beers like Repeater (Extra Pale Ale), Antidote (West Coast IPA), and Cityscapes (Mexican-style Lager) round out their offerings.
But Ratio is more than its brews; it’s a scene. The brewery regularly hosts live music, comedy nights, quiz shows, and events like “Ratio Sessions,” intimate acoustic sets that feed into Denver’s music circuit. They’ve pioneered community-themed celebrations like their “12 Days of Giving,” donating a dollar from every beer to local nonprofits during the holidays, and embraced inclusive events like Punk Rock Drag Shows benefiting LGBTQ+ causes.
In 2022, Ratio expanded with a second location in Overland, thoughtfully converting a former brewpub space into a production facility and taproom complete with an eight-thousand-square-foot patio, fire pit, and a fence echoing their artistic heritage. The upgrade allowed them to ramp up capacity by nearly 50%, from approximately 4,200 barrels to more, while launching canning operations that brought their flagship and seasonal beers back into circulation.
At its core, Ratio Beerworks is a bridge between music and beer, between punk DIY sensibility and precise brewing science, and between craft and community. Here, every pour reflects a carefully calculated balance of flavor, creativity, and connection, making Ratio not just a brewery, but a living testament to the spirit of independent expression.
