Few beers capture the spirit of Norse tradition and heavy metal culture quite like Trve Brewing Co.’s Bloodaxe. Though no longer in production, this Nordic-style ale left an impression on drinkers with its bold ingredients and unapologetic attitude, staying true to Trve’s reputation for brewing with edge and character.

Sensory Description:

Bloodaxe pours with a rustic presence, evoking the raw character of Nordic brewing traditions. The nose is lifted with bright orange zest, subtle spice, and a hint of earthy grain. On the palate, citrus peel marries with the peppery, herbal notes of grains of paradise, balanced by a smooth malt backbone. At 6% ABV, it is medium-bodied yet refreshing, offering a lively interplay of fruit and spice that finishes crisp, dry, and invigorating.

Brewer's Background:

Trve Brewing Co., based in Denver, Colorado, is more than just a brewery; it’s a celebration of beer, heavy metal, and counterculture. Founded in 2012 by Nick Nunns, Trve carved a niche for itself with adventurous brewing styles and an unapologetically bold brand identity. From mixed-fermentation sours to Nordic-inspired ales like Bloodaxe, their beers often push boundaries while remaining deeply rooted in craftsmanship. Expansion into Asheville extended their reach, but the brewery has never lost its underground, metal-infused ethos.

Serving Suggestions:

Best enjoyed at 8–10°C (46–50°F) in a tulip or nonic pint glass, Bloodaxe pairs wonderfully with smoked meats, roasted game, hearty stews, and aged cheeses, while its citrus and spice components also play well alongside spiced sausages or Nordic-inspired fare. A beer built for both contemplation and revelry, it was as fitting at a feast as it was in the mosh pit.

Even though it’s no longer brewed, Bloodaxe remains a cult favorite, a spiced, citrus-driven Nordic ale that stood out for its originality and its embodiment of Trve Brewing’s rebellious spirit. For those who had the chance to raise a glass, it was a beer as memorable as its name.
