Winemaker's Background:

Michel and Isabelle Dietrich, both from winegrowing families in Alsace and Champagne, founded Château Haut-Rian in 1988 after professional experience in Germany, Australia, and Bordeaux. Their daughter Pauline Lapierre earned her oenology degree in Montpellier and took over the estate in 2019. Her husband, William Lapierre, joined her in 2020 following studies in viticulture and oenology in Angers, while Michel remains involved in tasting and blending. The family works exclusively with fruit from its own parcels, which are distributed across several villages and range from recently planted vines to blocks dating from the 1940s. Sémillon is central to the estate’s identity, and a massal-selection program begun in 2019 helps preserve the genetic diversity of its oldest Sémillon parcels. Organic conversion began in 2018, followed by the use of biodynamic preparations and Demeter recognition for the grapes beginning in 2025.
