Tucked into the rolling hills of the C™te de Beaune, Domaine Philippe Germain is quietly crafting wines that bridge the gap between tradition and evolution in Burgundy. As climate change reshapes the region, the elevated vineyards of the Hautes-C™tes are emerging as a crucial sanctuary for Pinot Noir, offering freshness and structure that echo BurgundyÕs past while embracing its future. This cuvŽe is the work of Philippe Germain and his nephew Maxime Champaud, who have infused new life into the family domaine, embracing natural winemaking and agroecological principles to create wines that are as sustainable as they are soulful.

Sensory Description

This is Pinot Noir in its purest, most evocative form. Expect a swirl of bright raspberry and cherry on the nose, laced with a whisper of damp earth and the faintest suggestion of forest floor. On the palate, the fruit takes center stage, juicy and vibrant, with soft tannins and refreshing acidity. Over time, the wine reveals its complex layers: earthy truffle, savory mushroom, and the unmistakable "farmyard funk" that Burgundy lovers adore. Each sip hints at its potential to age beautifully, gaining depth and dimension as the years go by.

Jessica Barrand sums it up perfectly: ÒThis is red Burgundy as it was meant to beÑelegant, complex, and a true chameleon in the glass.Ó

WinemakerÕs Background

After trading a high-powered career in Paris for the quiet charm of the C™te de Beaune, Philippe Germain set out to reimagine his familyÕs domaine in Nantoux. With a focus on environmental stewardship, he implemented HVE-certified practices, banning herbicides and insecticides, and adopting low-impact techniques to enhance biodiversity and soil health. In 2008, his nephew Maxime Champaud joined as winemaker, bringing a contemporary touch to the domaineÕs timeless approach. Together, theyÕve built a reputation for creating expressive, terroir-driven wines that reflect their love for the land.
